As the photographs illustrate this particular family garden design & landscaping project in Rathfarnham included a wide range of inputs including limestone patio and paving areas, mature trees, specimen shrubs, an extensive mix of compact growing but low maintenance herbaceous perennials and ornamental grasses. Separating the extensive patio from the lawn area was a Raised Planter bed constructed in natural stone and built in drystone style. At the opposite end of the garden a bespoke and spectacular steel trellis screen separates the ornamental garden from a modest wild meadow and vegetable growing area. In spite of the many built elements the garden features an extensive and rich mix of plants, shrubs and trees which helped to create an 'instant' mature look especially for a new garden. Other interesting elements included specially commissioned sculpture by Dublin based Sculptor Ian Pollack. Garden sculpture plays an important role in extending the visual interest and aesthetic of any garden. One example is the Butterfly sculpture which can be seen through the purpose made porthole in the trellis screen. To extend the visual interest and client wishes to enjoy the garden after dark, the garden design included an extensive lighting plan and installed as part of the landscaping works.
