Carysfort

Carysfort August 2008

This project featured a superior granite specified level of finish Driveway and some remodelling of the Planted Areas. Focus was to design a new spatial layout to allow practical parking but retain an open aspect to access House and distinctive views to Garden areas. Because of the variable site levels, initial site works required extensive excavations so as to achieve more consistent and uniform site gradients. The previous cobble lock, concrete driveway and pebble holding areas were each completely removed and an extensive surface drainage system spanning the width of the site was installed to take all surface water/rain run-offs.

The construction and materials used were of the highest standard and featured granite paving, granite setts and granite kerbing. Granite Setts were used for the primary parking areas and but also to contrast and define the Driveway perimeter where it was used in concentric banding in striking contrast to Granite Kerbing and Granite paving. The more refined look of Granite paving however was used in areas directly around the house and also where pedestrian access was required (Side Access areas). The granite finishes provide a stunning looking but extremely durable finish making it an ideal choice for Driveways. The consistent colour appearance and calibrated standard of finish and size ensures a striking but confident final result. The striking contrast of the more ‘rugged’ finish of the Granite Setts and Kerbing with the more refined surface of the Granite paving is striking and is much in evidence throughout with the high level of finish and crafted workmanship in the gentle sweeping curves and simple geometrics. The original Entrance Step was extended and rebuilt in Granite with the distinctive Bullnose finish. Two glazed Black Planters featuring well developed specimens of the Bay Laurel Standards provide a confident but striking contrast at the Entrance.
