A DAY IN THE LIFE…of a landscaper (Days 9-12)

posted in advice category on 2009-01-06

In spite of the impending gloomy weather, good progress continues to be made and by end of Day 9, the main Patio areas featuring the Natural Sandstone paving is really beginning to look well and is all but completed (see Pics 1 and 2). For a lighter look, we are planning to use a proprietary jointing material 'Rompox' which is specifically made for the jointing of natural paving, but in order to avoid any risk of soiling etc, we plan to do the jointing nearer the end of the project. All the sandstone off cuts are used to help backfill the raised platform (see Pic 3) for the Victorian Summerhouse and by Day 12 the platform walls have been faced in natural sandstone and the platform's core filled with compacted hardcore and finished with a 50mm screed of sand cement (see Pic 4). By close of business on Day 12, the pressure treated heavy duty Trellising (Pics 5, 6 and 7) has been installed, and the ground for the lower level step at ground level around patio perimeter has been marked out and initial ground preparation for foundation work commenced (see Pics 8, 9 and 10). The distinctive figure '8' profile of the sandstone pathway is marked out for excavations. The pathway will gently sweep around the garden effectively encircling the lawn areas but also provide the garden visitor with easy access and a firm and dry base from which to admire and observe the beauty and variety of the planting schemes etc throughout the garden (see Pics 11 and 12).
