A DAY IN THE LIFE… of a landscaper (Days 15-16)

posted in advice category on 2009-01-06

As the weather was generally poorly we were anxious to complete the hard landscaping phase, i.e., the patios and pathways which would provide us with solid and accessible means to proceed with working the ground for planting and lawns etc. For a more consistent sweep and no arcing (thin joint on inside and wide joint on outside) of paving slabs, we would taper cut all individual slabs to provide a consistent joint and gentle sweeping curve (Pic 1). Long pathways such as the type featured in this project involves considerable cutting, but the results are well worth the extra effort (Pics 2 and 3). We take great pride in getting the details as well as the finish right. As we often say, "do it once, but do it right!"

Once paving was completed we could position the floor base for the Victorian Summerhouse on the raised platform (Pic 4).

Later same day the installation of garden lighting was started (Pic 5), in this garden we installed Stainless Steel Bollard lighting (with energy efficient 15W CFL lamps producing almost 90W lighting output) and Surface lights for up lighting selected specimen plants (Olive Trees, Bay Laurel Standards).

By close of business on Day 15, after much ground works and extensive hard landscaping works, a modest start was made to what is a very exciting stage in all garden projects, the commencement of the planting phase (Pic 6).
