Granite Driveway Design project in Knocklyon, Dublin 16.
Planting can complement the driveway but few like overgrown congestion
Jaded planting and weed control is onerous
Typically sub-urban gardens require more parking space and a wider entrance
It is quite a jump in terms of cost to replace a mediocre cobbleock driveway with a natural granite finish. But the additional costs incurred will pay many future dividends, harder wearing, aesthetically much more pleasing and certainly very complementary to the house. Granite offers significant advantages over other finishes including significantly reduced maintenance requirements, no routine weeding of granite required as all joints are sealed with sand and cement. No subsidence as the granite is installed on a comprehensive and robust sand and cement base . The sub-base is also a more substantial and compacted hardcore base. Annual cleaning is easy and the added advantage of no fading, no loss of colour. When it comes to selecting which granite finish, there are several options to consider and a very popular choice is granite paving. In the current driveway project, granite setts have been used as a border trim, producing an interesting textural contrast to the more refined calibrated surface of granite paving.
