Cladding a darker drama for the brightness of green

Many prefer to see lots of colour in the garden, perhaps this has more to do with the close association of colour with brightness and warmth? But overuse of colour can be counterproductive, sometimes it can appear too fussy, complicated. On the otherhand a more limited use of colour can also be very appealing. Simple colour schemes lend themselves to perhaps a more formal layout. Darker backgrounds work particularly well in these more architectural schemes, where plant forms are more evident than the colopur of the foliage or absence of blooms. Shiplap timber wall cladding makes a wonderful background to emphasise plant forms.  The black ash painted background creates a very striking and dramatic canvas against which to boldly display the planting and to demonstrate the brightness of green
